Thanks to all who have contributed to and worked to put together this fantastic forum. By this time on Friday there will be a frenchie in this family. appicon
I have been pouring over many of the postings trying to get ready for our new fur kid --- a five year old female named Bikini! Thanks again, your advise has been invaluable.

Wow! We picked up Bikini on Friday and it has been a circus with her around. :D I can't believe she is five--she has the energy of a pup. (Once I can get her to settle down I will post a photo.) She does have a slightly greying mussle and a little pink tongue that likes to stick out but looks can be deceptive, this little girl is full of energy. The first night she cried and howled for about 15 minutes when we crated her for bed; last night just a little wining for less than 3 minutes.
We are also letting her out alot as she used to have a doggie door, so she is not used to "asking" to go out. I am probably going to try some bells on the back door and see if we can train her to "ring" them when she wants out.
All joking aside, we are making her sit before giving her what she wants--to go out, a toy or on "her" couch. :) UNlike most of the frenchies I have read about she pulls when you try and walk her. (As per your advise, starting tomorrow, I am going to try the stop every time she pulls method. Something tells me this is going to make for more stopping than walking!) The breeder seemed to frown on using a harness, but she pulls so hard and I don't want to use a choke chain so I might try a harness--I may post question on training section.
She is very happy and confident. A real treasure.
My only concern right now is that she is not eating. I was told she is probably holding out for treats and will eat her food when she gets hungry. (I bought Van Pattens Ultra Premium.) She used to eat food from Costco. I would mix the two together to switch her over but we don't have a Cosstco close by. I have given her a couple of biscuits, also from Van Patten--she ate those straight away.
Anyway, I am sure that alot of what is going on is just her getting use to her new situation. She went from being one of MANY dogs living at a breeder's to being the center of attention and only dog of a family of three. So I may give things a few day to normalize before I start posting questions like crazy.
BTW: I think she really likes the new situation better. She seems VERY happy.

Congratulations!! Nothing better than a HAPPY Frenchie. ;) Am wondering why the breeder is opposed to using a harness. I use nothing other than harnesses for my two....my Abby is a "puller" on the leash and a collar would put pressure on her neck.
Hope to hear more about Bikini! Enjoy your new addition. :D

You are never going to be the same! They will bring so much joy into your life. I wish I had another but that will be in a few years. I am going to be a frenchie owner for life. I also love endorsing the breed because of the happiness they bring to everyone they come across.
Again Congrats and enjoy everyday with them.
