Hopefully a pulled muscle and not disc problems. This WILL be long...

George got a pressed rawhide chew (along with Bailey) on Sunday the 24th. This is a very rare occasion and they were highly supervised. Anyway, Monday night around bedtime I noticed that George wasn't being his normal snuggly playful self. He didn't seem to be in pain, just subdued. Tuesday morning he ran around like normal, more playing Tuesday night, and Wednesday AM. When I got home Wednesday around 5:30, he didn't greet me at the door and when I found him he was standing still, hunched over and trembling. While calling the ER, he started screeching and just "hugged" the ground. I carried him to the car and into the ER. My first thought was an obstruction from the rawhide. Basically, they took him into the back and checked him out...I cried in the lobby, 10 minutes later George comes walking out, Tech in tow. The Dr. was as confused as I was. He got better in front of us, but still subdued and walking a little stiff. She sent me home with anti-inflammatory and said it could be the beginning of disc-issues. So...David and I are taking turns baysitting and keeping a close eye on him. His regular Dr called to check on him and said it's probably a pulled muscle. Stick with the meds for 2-3 weeks, next step...imaging.

We're deeply concerned and scared for little George, I've read tons of info on disc issues. No falls or injury to speak of....

anyone experienced a pulled muscle in their Frenchie's neck??

Nichole....I saw the title of your post and my heart skipped a beat. :( I hope and pray that it is just a pulled muscle. Back issues are a Frenchie owner's worst fear. A few months ago I decided to have Ferris' back xrayed because I noticed that he was extending one of his rear legs just a wee bit when standing. His back looked pretty bad but so far he has not had any problems and my vet said he may never have any. We do try to lift him off of the bed if we can grab him before he jumps. While I was there we went ahead and had Abby's back xrayed. Vet could not find anything....not even a hemi-v which is almost always found in Frenchies. At any rate...I give Abby and Ferris both a daily supplement called Osteo-3...your basic glucosomine with some other good stuff.

I will be holding good, positive thoughts about George....he's such a GREAT boy. Please let me know how he does over the next few days. Give that boy a big kiss from me. I have heard others speak of neck strains...mostly due to tugging with a collar and they all get over it with lots of R+R.

Take care....
