Hello everyone,
I want to introduce the newest member to our family, Famous Amos. Amos will be 4 months old on Sept. 15. He is such a smart little guy too; he has learned to sit by the door when he needs to go out to potty (most of the time). He has also learned to sit and stay and he's loves his crate!! Let me assure you it was not always like that. I have learned so much about the breed from this site and look forward to reading more. I do have one issue with Amos. Any time we go out someone will come up to us and bend down to pet him, he gets so excited and jumps up to give the person a kiss right on the lips. Some people think he's going to bite them. What can I do? I try to warn people I even hold his harness so he can't jump up. But some people don't even ask to pet him they just do. I have even had a women pick him up with out even asking first .

Hi Shauna/Devin and welcome! Wow...your photos of Amos are wonderful.....he is a beautiful boy! ;)

There was a very recent thread about Frenchies jumping up to give kisses (head butting) but I can't find it....maybe someone else can. Your boy is very young and doing puppy things. So for now...continue working with him and don't let people, especially strangers lean over him. My Ferris gave me a black eye before he learned to be gentle with his kisses. They are such knuckle heads and a good slam from a Frenchie can be a dangerous thing.

Hope you continue to enjoy this site. :D

Amos is such a Handsome frenchie! "Slam Kissing" it seems most us have this issue with our guys. Be persistent on his training. Frenchies can be quite stuborn. I always ask then to sit and stay when greeting new people. But keep in mind it doesn't always work:eek: ! Enjoy your new baby! And welcome.........:D

He's adorable!!!

Welcome to the boards.

Our baby is quite the slam kisser too. It's something you have to work on, although from what I've read it's hard to get them to stop!

Great photos --what a sweet little guy!

Good luck with the "slam-kissing." My husband and I are used to it now (we've had Quintus since 2/06), but it does pose a problem when one's out in public or has company over. It's really hard when we're around little kids --they all want to pet Quinn and Quinn desperately wants to be petted, but slam kissing turns into tackling when the recipient is only 3 feet tall!

We've enrolled in doggy kindergarten and will try and work on it there.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes and great advice; it helps to know that I am not the only one with a crazy kissing frenchie. Amos will be starting puppy preschool next week and hopefully the trainer will be able to help us. I read through the “Slam-Kissing” thread and it sounds all too familiar and sooo hilarious.

Swissmodern thanks for telling me about Ed Hardy tees. I googled his pet line and it so unusual, not like any thing out there.

Boykins is definitely a big "slam kisser" (a term I hand't heard until I started reading this thread), so I usually warn people, especially anyone who has a young child who only wants to pet her. (One woman in my neighborhood was really grateful that I mentioned this before her little boy came closer. I just think I'd feel really guilty if Boykins scared a little child.) Fortunately, she's shown I can be confident in saying that she only wants to lick, not bite!

One thing you might consider doing is standing on Amos's leash, which will limit his ability to move upward. This is a trick we learned in our puppy kindergarten class when trying to teach Boykins to sit. If I don't want her to jump up on people who want to say hi (up close), I will stand on her leash so she can't jump up on them. It seems to work really well.

Now, if I could only get her to slow down when I lean in for a little nuzzle...At least I know her heart's in the right place! :)

I know everyone's been saying it, but Amos is really a beautiful boy. I hope you're enjoying him as much as we're enjoying Boykins! It sure looks that way.
