View Full Version : Seeing their brothers or sisters

Has anyone ever arranged a meet up with your puppies brothers and sisters? On the day that Beckham was delivered to us, one of his littermates was also delivered to Toronto. I just emailed the breeder with a little note asking her to forward it on to the other owner. I basically said I was interested in having a playdate for our dogs so they can see each other again. If they aren't interested, thats OK but how fun would that be?! Or would it upset them to have to see each other and then leave again? Who knows if they'll even write back. But you never know!

I know a couple of litter-mates that play together (or did until their families moved too far apart). The had a huge birthday party together :) and posted picture of it in a different forum. The boys seemed to get along really well. I hope the other family contacts you there really is nothing better than watching two Frenchies play:) Oh except maybe five of more:lol:

A birthday party...thats awesome!! I have to go back and try to find those pictures.

I gave them a link to another website that I visit for Frenchie owners in Toronto. They plan meet ups. There is one on October 1st and I think there are at least 20 Frenchies that are attending so far! Hopefully this owner can make it out too.

I just wonder what his brother or sister will look like! Will it be like looking at Beckham? Will they be the same size? Will they have the same personality?
Nevermind how cute they will be together!

First, sorry I keep talking about my Chin, but until Bijou is home, I can't make anything Frenchie related.

My first Chin is a year older than her two younger sisters that I also have. When I went to pick up the babies, I took Aiko with me. I didn't know what to expect, but all of the dogs seemed to know Aiko was family. She's kind of prissy, but was so relaxed there and even embarassed me by curling up on the breeder's brand new red chaise! I think she remembered them.

I've often wondered if there's some sort of identifying scent among relatives and that's why they are comfortable with each other.

Aiko had fun while she was there and had no problems when she left...well, except that she had to share her toys with 2 new sisters! lol

I hope the family contacts you!

Tank's ltter had 5. By coincidence I stumbled over one littermate in another web group. We had introduced our dogs to the groups and the date of birth came out and then we questioned the state the breeder was in and found they were brothers.

The owner of Tank's brother, Samson, knew about a sister, Marina, but knew nothing of the other two.

Unfortunately his brother is about 6 hours away; we are OH, they are near DC. We have swapped a few pictures. And I hooked up the owner with my niece who does dog obedience training in the DC area. We would really like to get them together but it is too far for a casual meeting.

The two brothers are very different.

Tank is a black masked red fawn. His brother is a not-very-dark brindle (the shading is visible, not like the really dark brindles). The sister (we could have had her) was a black masked fawn.

Both Tank and the sister were runts of the litter, very small. Now Tank and Samson are about the same weight. Also, Samson's owner knew that this sister was the dominate alpha of the litter and terrorized all the other dogs.

Tank HATES riding the car; his brother loves it.
Samson has always loved going for walks; Tank would have nothing to do with them until he was over a year old and still does not jump up at the work W-A-L-K. He knows what it is, you can tell by how he slowly pulls himself to his feet and looks at Mommy to see if she will save him. Once he hits the pavement he is okay, except he pulls, which pushes on his throat and he sounds like he is strangling. He outgrew his harness, need to buy a big one now.
Samson is a more interested eater; Tank doesn't run for dog food but loves peanut butter and almonds, spits out walnut. Get this, Samson comes for the word "Gruyere".

Quintus' breeder threw a FABULOUS first birthday party for Quinny and his extended family. One of Quinny's sisters had yet to begin the show circuit and her owner was kind enough to open her house to everyone for the party.

Aside from Kyra --Q's sister --Q's mom, grandfather and aunt were all in attendance, in addition to a couple Norwich cousins. It was a blast! Quinn looks nothing like his sister, a very petite red fawn. He was twice her size!!

It was really interesting watching all the dogs interact. We gave them the run of the house and backyard. Quinn seemed to spend equal time with everyone and didn't appear to be suffering from any nostalgia re being reunited with his mum or sis.

I would definitely recommend a family play date. However, I think us humans got the most out of the party. It was so much fun to watch a herd of Frenchie's take over a house! As for Quinn, I think he enjoys playing with the dogs at the park just as much as playing with his family. In fact, he's developed a very unhealthy obsession with pugs...

Belzie had a one night play session with a huge pug named Jimbo. He was so big he had no neck to hang off off. After a few minutes of frustration- trying to mouth his neck, she discovered his tail was fluffy and very springy. It was very funny:)

Belzie does know her friends. Today we were at the SPCA Paws for a Cause, and a Boston attacked her :) - It was her friend Yoko from her puppy, and basic obedience class. appicon Yoko and Belzie were mad for each other and had to be kept on separate sides of the room - or they were incredibly disruptive. The fact that they hadn't seen each other in months made no difference at all. It was a very good day appicon

Thanks for sharing your stories!

Susan-n-Bijou, you sure have a full house! 3 Japanese Chins and a French Bulldog now?!

No contact from the other owner yet. But yesterday we went to our first French Bulldog Meet up! Beckham met 5 other frenchies and they had so much fun playing with each other. It was definitely cute. By the time we got home, he was wiped and passed out instantly.

It is interesting to note the dynamics. English, especially younger ones, are all about bulk and brute strength with each other. But around a Frenchie they become noticeably more gentle and careful with their force. But throw a female Frenchie in the mix and she will take after any one, especially the English bitch.

Tonight the host will have her new Frenchie puppy at the group for the first time, her breeder will bringing another pup from her last litter along with some of her other dogs. Plus about 4 English. By coincidence, two group members are getting married around now and think they have a good reason not to come.

Orson and one of his sister's, B.B., who is part of this forum saw each other for the first time since they were small just a few months ago and they immediately picked each other out of the crowd and played and played with each other. They were so sweet together and it was awesome because they both played the same types of games. It was like they were best buddies:) It was so fun to see.
Another one of Orson's sisters lives close and we hope she comes to a Frenchie gathering soon because I would love to see if they react the same way to each other.
