One of my favorite reference tools are the books and tapes by the Monks of New Skete.
These Monks started breeding/showing and training GSD's a number of years ago.And they became famous for thier gentle, effective training methods.
Pack leadership is the basis of the training and no treats are used.The dogs are amazing.What I also like is that you can get tapes along with the books ;makes it so much easier to follow.
The Monks use leash training as a primary housebreaking tool;it is based on the dog's natural territorial tendencies.
