Hello again. I posted here a few months ago asking for advice on working with a breeder (or two). I live just outside Atlanta, GA. I am married, have three kids (3,5,7) and work (on Saturdays) as a veterinarian. My husband is also a vet. I grew up with boxers and my family had never owned another breed until my brother got two pugs in recent years. I lost my very, very dear boxer to cancer four years ago, an experience that I am not sure I'll ever get over. I've always loved the look of French bulldogs and last year I met my first two. They are patients of mine and they were so charming. After doing some research I decided I wanted a French bulldog of my own. I found a couple breeders I liked and for a time was conflicted about which breeder I wanted to get my Frenchie from. Here is a link to that post: http://www.bulldogworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2374
While I kept in touch with both breeders, I ended up deciding to "put all my eggs in one basket" because I felt really, really good about one breeder in particular. She seemed to have time to answer all my questions and her previous puppy buyers seemed so pleased. It just seemed "right". In June, there was a litter of five born-- two brindle females and three pied males. The breeder ended up keeping the larger of the two girls for show and I got the smaller. She arrived on Friday and she'll be 11 weeks old tomorrow.
Scarlett is dark brindle, with a few red flecks here and there and a white starburst pattern on her chest. She is such a sweet and fun girl-- she plays hard but settles down as soon as she is asked. She is affectionate and silly. She's confident but not bossy. She loves my children. She quickly settles down at night and sleeps through until early morning. She is off to a great start with housebreaking, too. And no messes in her crate at all! In a nutshell, she's perfect. :p I plan to spoil her rotten!
I know breeder names are not allowed but if anyone else has Frenchie from just outside Oklahoma City, I would especially like to hear from you. What a wonderful, exciting experience it has been to work with a good breeder and get such a healthy puppy, both physically and temperament-wise.
Thank you all for providing advice last May and for posting your experiences here. It has been very helpful. I look forward to getting to know all of you and your dogs (cats are okay, too-- I have two of them). :)
