I just went home for lunch and let my pup
out to pee from his crate. He went out the
doggie door and was out there for some time.
I went out to see what was up and he had just
pooped, but it was sorta mucousy. Then he kept
looking around and started heaving thick mucousy
foamy stuff with a piece of carrot in it:eek:
Is this something I should be worried about?
He did have a bit o diarrea last night and this morning.
Anyone else seen this?
Thanks,
Greg and franc

Hi Greg,
That sounds awful- maybe a good idea to bring her to the vet. Bouji once had a bout of foamy vomiting and we took her to the vet—she had cramping in her stomach and seemed depressed or in pain/uncomfortable. The vet injected fluid to keep her hydrated and told me to keep a close eye on her for the next 24hrs. The vet said she was most concerned about the vomiting since it could be a sign of something more serious. She thought maybe Bouji swallowed something and it was stuck somewhere in her system. Luckily, after 24 hrs Bouji was eating, drinking, and playing like her normal self and she didn’t vomit again.
Hope everything works out.

Carrots are not easily digested when given whole or in pieces and they usually come out the same way they went in:eek:.
Judy
Yeah I think his tums just a little off, cause he carried on as if nothing
happened. I've been feeding him some evengers we got as a free sample
mixed in with his kibble. Has carrots and stuff in it. The roast beef was
really good, he gobbled that right up. I was tempted to try it myself:p
Thanks for your advice.

When you see mucous in the stool, it is usually a sign that the body is ridding itself of toxins. The first time I ever saw that in one of my pup's stools I was shocked, but then I did some reading and checked in with my holistic vet and she told me that it was actually a good thing. It's probably not something that you'd expect to see on-going. In fact, as I recall, it only happened once for my dog and then the next stool was normal. I guess I'd only be concerned if it happens continuously.

i read that a good doggie treat for summer is baby carrots from the fridge, so of course i started to give agnes like four a day. whenever she has even one the next day she has diarrhea with bits of carrot, i think maybe they have difficulty digesting them!

Dogs cannot digest cellulose, so they can't digest vegetables unless as Judy said they are put through a blender and the cell walls are crushed. Frenchies are also notoriously poor chewers, they're impatient and swallow things whole so large pieces of undigested vegetable will most probably cause digestive problems. There's a few reasons for mucuous but one common one is the body is coating something that's undigested to ease its passage out of the system
