I just found out the woman at work who had the cream colored 3 year old male lost him this weekend. They had run to the store and left him in the fenced in back yard/garage area. Apparently he got out and drowned in the neighbor's pool which did not have a fence around it. Please have her (Donna) and her family in your prayers and be careful if your neighbor has a pool! This was the first time they let him stay outside while they were gone. :(

Oh my! That's heartbreaking. I can imagine how awful they must feel. And the poor dog too - he must have been so scared. We're thinking of them.

My heart skipped a beat when I read about this tragedy. Please give my heartfelt condolences to your friend Donna. Accidents are just that....accidents. As careful as we all try to be.....stuff happens that we cannot always anticipate. I feel so sad for Donna....I know what she must be feeling.

Yes, I've only had Dutchie almost a year, I can't imagine losing him after 3! I've been thinking about her all the time, especially when I'm getting Frenchie love. I thought maybe after some time has passed I'll bring Dutchie in to share the love.

I am very sorry for this person's loss. BUT .. I am in total agreement with Judy...
We are the caretakers and care givers of our dogs..Leaving a dog alone outside is just an accident waiting to happen...Be it in a backyard or in a city..To be stolen or killed...
On a daily basis , I see dogs tied up outside of stores , while people go in for "just a minute"..the dog can be stolen or hurt..Dogs left in backyards to be taken or as in this case; a tragic accident...
My condolences in their time of grief.. The pain and guilt must be terrible..

I just found out today in speaking with Donna's daughter that they had not left but were inside the house when this happened! They let him out to go potty and he escaped that quickly! I'm not sure exactly how he got out but it's good to know they didn't leave him outside while they were gone.

She and her husband are both taking it hard. They have no children in the house and she said he was like her baby. At first they didn't think they wanted another dog but now they say they need another Frenchie in their life. I can't imagine not having one after you have experienced their wonderful character. Thanks for your concern.

I've been away from the board for a while (taking the Bar) and was absolutely horrified to hear about this. I'm am so sorry for your co-worker's loss. Every morning when I leave for work I worry about what could happen while I'm gone --and that's with Q in a crate. This is like a worst nightmare coming true.
Our condolences to Donna and her family.
Going to give Quinn an extra squeeze tonight...

Thank you for your kind words. They are looking into getting a new baby soon and she said she would never let him out of her sight! It makes me want to cuddle my boy extra tight!
