View Full Version : Not chewing the food?

My Gigi does not chew her food. She is on a dry puppy food and has treats for training. All food small enough to go in the mouth is swallowed whole, no chewing at all. I found this out when she vomited food, which happens from time to time. All kibble comes up whole.

A day ago she vomited her dinner a couple of hours after eating, irritated her throat which caused breathing difficulty which scared her and me to death. We went to the vet and she was Ok but the "swallowing food whole" thing has me wondering if I should be doing something different. The vet thinks it is not unusual and nothing to worry about.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

I heard that if you put the food on a cookie sheet all spread out, they can't inhale it so quickly, and it reduces choking and stomach upset. At least she's eager to eat! What a hoover!
