On Roosje's website at http://80.126.213.52/~roos/dotkom/pages/frames_eng/rank_eng.html the French Bulldog is only rated 58.
I had a Boxer (ranked 48 only) who was very intelligent and he could understand everything so quickly. He did not obey well, especially around people he didn't know and want to greet, or around cats he wanted to catch though.
With Athlon, I was a little disappointed at the beginning because it was so hard to teach him things. I got him only when he was around 1 year old so I don't know his life before, and he was probably never trained. There were some very obvious things that were "magic" to him :D
Like his toy was on the floor in the living room and he was watching it. I covered the toy in front of him with the carpet and poof, the toy disappeared to him and he was looking for it in the whole room! He didn't guess it was just hidden under the carpet. What a surprise for me when I noticed he didn't realize it! I had to do the same thing maybe 20 times to finally make him find it was right in front of him under the carpet :)
He is intelligent for other things like knowing perfectly the way for walk and even shortcuts to get back home faster when he's tired!
So do you think this ranking is accurate for your Frenchie?

I think Frenchies are very intellegent. But I think that Frenchies view the world differently than other dogs. I think most dogs want to please you. Frenchies on the other hand want to know what's in it for them. Sometimes I actually think that Madison reasons things out. When it is his dinner time & I do not go to feed him, he will head for the door for me to take him outside. Then when I get up he will run for the kitchen. He knows that I always get up to let him out, so he just must figure once he has me up, I will do what he wants.

Gerdine: I have to agree with you about the food! Athlon knows well what the fridge contains and for his dinner if I am late he would start to move his bowl

Pattie: what you describe would suit to boxers too. If you ask a boxer to jump into water and he doesn't see his own interest of doing it, he will not jump!
(Totally unrelated: I think you posted a comment yesterday on Athlon's photo but there was a bug with it so I had to delete your comment to fix the bug. Sorry!)

Roosje: Athlon is good at ignoring me when he doesn't want to go out because it rains. I know he is a little deaf but I believe he is taking some advantages at it! Thank you for the links, I will find out if Athlon should go to Harvard or just stay asleep on the couch as they say ;)
Athlon can be very smart at telling what he wants but sometimes so surprising too: he has his own logic. One of the first days I had him, to play I threw his toy in the backyard. It landed on a tree and since that time when I throw his toy and he doesn't find it, he also looks at the sky :D

Rocks hates going out in the rain! Sometimes he will refuse to poop when it is raining hard! Thankfully that doesn't mean he goes in the house.

The last paragraph just cracked me up! :p

Madison hates going out in the rain also. He will only go out if he absolutely has to.

Athlon is smart, but won't go to Harvard :)
Lost many points at the last test (http://www.abc.net.au/animals/dog_test/test6.htm) where he didn't respond well but I was outside walking him when I did this test. He is also a little deaf (he doesn't identify well where the sound comes from).
As for going out when it rains, I have to carry him to put him outside, especially when he didn't go out for almost the whole day because of the rain.
