Hello everyone. LIttle Bo has been throwing up in the middle of the night again and in the am. It looks like egg yolk colored bile (no food in it). He eats 1 cup in the am and 1 cup of food in the early pm. Should have a concern or is this common? Its been going on for about 3 nights now. I am also having problems with the proper food again. Now that I have taken Bo off the puppy food, I can't seem to find any that agree with him - the gas & diareah is back. Any suggestions?

Thanks, April

April, if Pattie (who owns Madison) doesn't get here for a while, I would recommend sending her an e-mail. If I remember correctly, Madison has had lots of medical problems, one of which has been a sort of doggie GERD - a form of heartburn that causes vomitting. Now, I may have this totally wrong, so don't take my word for it, but I THINK that heartburn is not an uncommon problems for the frenchies. It may be something as simple as maybe he needs a little snack before bedtime to help with stomach acids overnight, or, as I'm sure you're aware, it could be something serious that needs to be checked out with a vet.

If it were me, I would keep a journal of these vomits (poor guy!) - feedings, water consumption (does he still get water after his last feeding? maybe that's a contributor?) and time of vomit. See what some other people say and, ultimately, take that info to your vet and ask.

Lola, when she was younger (as in 3mo old ;) ) would throw up a bit in the morning after she had her first water. So I started making sure she got a quick treat before I put down the water bowl and that's helped her. Not bile, though. Who knows, Little Bo may need some sort of Zantac or the little purple pill!

As for gas, diarreah and food problems ... well, it sounds like you've got more than just a bile problem! But we know that these dogs can be picky eaters and very, very gassy. A 5 day dose of Flagyl (250mg) worked great on gas and diarreah for us.

Good luck with the little guy!

April,
Allot of these dogs seem to have this throwing up problem when they are young; Dari did. The vet suggested a small snack right before bed. A couple of dog biscuits. That seems to help. What she said was happening was that the acid was building up in an empty stomach.
As for the gas and diareah;how quickly did you change his food?If you did not transition him slowly, he could have that problem from changing too quickly. Or the food you are giving him may just not agree with his stomach and you may have to try another kind.
When I have changed foods it took two weeks to transition over.
