Hi, I was just wondering.. when is it okay for Zowie to be on the grass. She's 9 weeks now and has had two of her shots. She's going back on Friday to get her 3rd set. I'm just worried about her getting fleas what who knows what else! But I'm also a big worry wart.

Well, it depends on the grass ;)

What she needs to avoid until she's finished her shots is unknown or many dogs, and the places that they defacate and urinate. So if the grass in question is regularly used by dogs in general as a toilet - best to avoid it. If it's your own private backyard or somewhere you know dogs don't go en mass, then it's fine - no need to wait.

Thanks for information! This forum has been very helpful but its also made me more confused by everyones different opinion. Of course I know that everyday is also different. I just hope I'm doing the right thing for Zowie.

Beckham loves to eat grass. Especially when its freshly cut out back, I have to contstantly take it out of his mouth. A few of the other puppies we know do the same thing. This is a general area where all the dogs play, go to the washroom etc. Is it really harmful to their health? Maybe we'll have to incorporate that into his obedience training we've just started! Its going to be hard though, this dog picks up and tries to eat everything in sight!

my understanding is no one knows exactly when each dogs vaccinations kick in. Some dogs may have the fullest immunity after a shot at 8 weeks and others may only be at 25% immunity from that same immunization. So, while your pup is young you are running a risk of catching nasties like parvo when you frequent areas other dogs have been in. Parvo, in particular, hangs around for a very long time-Ive heard 6-9 months- and can be carried in on shoes, etc; it does not take direct contact with an obviously ill dog

My friend just nursed a pup though Parvo and she has to carry him in to the vet now. Had he passed, she would not have gotten another young dog for at least 6 months because it would be lurking somewhere in the environment. Older dogs would have a higher immunity so she could have acquired a young adult had the worse happened.

google puppy and vaccination-you'll get a lot of good into

Yes, we've had parvo at our house. It lasts an average of 6 months in the house and up to 12 outside!

That doesn't sound good! I'll have to be more careful with Beckham.

What are the symptoms of Parvo?
