Hi All,

We have been feeding Luna raw chicken for at least three months, and now she is no longer interested in eating it. We have also found it to be very messy - she drags it out of the bowl/plate, no matter how small the piece. I am also concerned that she is not getting a balanced diet - we usually serve it with alfalfa/kelp powder & omega oils, but she doesn't like vegetables (unless it's baby carrots...what a princess). I have also tried other kinds of raw meat (lamb, beef, pork) and it really upsets her stomach. The only thing she wants to eat is cooked chicken breast and rice, but that is really costly (the chicken breast) and takes a long time & a lot of dishes to prepare.

So...what to do? I'm afraid to go back to kibble (because of her previous bouts of diharea) & I really can't put a lot of time into food preperation. I don't even cook for myself!

Any advice?

Thanks a million,
Brooke.

Brooke,

There have been loads of discussions about diet and feeding here on the forum, so be sure to read through old posts. Many have had great success with the raw diet and love it to death. I am currently feeding my two pups 'Wellness.' They get kibble in the morning and canned food with kibble in the evening and a couple of hard crunch treats during the day. I considered a raw diet for them, but realized that there was no way that I would take the time and effort it required. This works well for us.

We also just went through a dose of Flagyl 250mg for 5 days and that has completly helped with stool consistency. They haven't had diarrhea for about three weeks, but they have still had, hmm, wet stool. It was a big pile of mushy-ness. But now we are solid and firm. If I remember, the doctor said that Flagyl was something that would help re-set or balance the bacteria in the colon -- and it sure seems to have!! Gigi is also much less gassy. How long it will last ... well, we'll see. But our immediate results have been great.

Good luck,
Martina

I read in some forum that you can try to add some stinky cheese on the food.. Not a rotting cheese but the stench of cheese kinda makes them puppies want to eat the food...heheh.. try a mozarella :D Also, I've read that adding COD LIVER OIL helps out too because of the FISHY SMELL, plus it will help out the dog's skin and fur to be shiny and healthy. :p

Thanks All!

I've started coating Luna's chicken drumsticks in cottage cheese...she's loving it!
Let's hope this satisfies the little princess for awhile :)

I have been feeding raw now for about 6 months. Previous to this my dog was a terrible eater. You might want to try reading a book called the Ultimate Diet. It makes raw feeding very simple.
Also if you use one of the pre=prepared raw diets , I think you will have allot easier time. Try Bravo or Oma's. Go to www.bravorawdiet.com. I am pretty sure that is the website. It is ground up and most digs really like it.
