We finally got it over with! I was so nervous, but when I went to pick him up that evening, he didn't act like anything had happened except his voice was a little horse. The vet saved the testicles so I could see the size difference. The one still inside was only 1/3 the size of the other! She asked if I wanted to take them home, but I declined! Now to keep him still for up to a week!

Yay Dutchie! I'm so glad he's home and doing well. It's really wonderful how quickly these dogs bounce back into life. Hope he's back up to all of his shenanigans in short order :p

I am so glad that Dutchie's surgery went well. I am so glad that Belzie and I survived her spay, and so glad that she is crate trained - she spent lots of time in her crate, as it was the only place we could put her and expect her not to try to jump on the couch or chase both of our cats. We made it 3 full days before calling the vet and begging permission to take her for a short walk. :)

appicon for Dutchie :) . Hope he feels like his old self again soon. I'm sure he will lap up all the extra TLC!

When I let him out Sat (the next day) to go potty, I caught him running around the yard! So I went out with him after that, but there was no stopping him yesterday. I was outside messing around and he was doing 500's! The vet said nothing too serious would happen if he did play so I didn't freak out. When me female cat was spayed, she laid around for days! But I think it's harder for females.

So glad to hear that it all went fine. I had to crate Ellie Mae to keep her quiet as she acted like nothing had happened at all. After about 3 days I gave up, I felt so bad for her she had so much energy! We let her out to play on an extended leash in the yard and let her get it out of her system. The vet said to just be careful and watch that her incision stays clean and dry. She was fine.

Yes, when the vet saw the look on my face after she said a week, she said that nothing serious would happen, just watch the stitches to make sure they don't come loose and if they do she could fix them, although I would hate to put Dutchie through that. I've been checking him every day and all looks well! appicon

Merla Pearl was spayed last Friday and she's been wearing one of those collars for five days now. It's driving her crazy and fair enough too. The vet here (I'm in Japan but my vet is from Ethiopia) said to leave it on for ten days, until the stitches come out. She recovered from the operation really quickly but it's the collar that's got her down. When I got home, she'd taken it off herself. Has anyone else used the collar and how long do the stitches stay in in other places?

Dutchie didn't wear a collar, his stitches were internal thank goodness!

I wonder how my vet will do Pearl? With my female skunk and female ferret that was spayed he used glue on the outside so there were no stitches to remove.

I guess Dutchie's dissolved after a while because we didn't have to go back for removal of the stitches.
