Hi everyone.
Im concerned about Manja. Sometimes in early in the morning he will get out of bed and start making these weird noises in his throat and moving his head like a chicken (dont know how else to describe it) and then he'll cough up a little bit of strange looking liquid. Its like a cross between phlegm and vomit.
Im worried that this is that Acid Reflux thing that french bulldogs are prone to. :( does it sound like I am correct???
It happens every couple of days and only ever early in the morning. But once he's finished he's fine and just goes back to sleep. He doesnt seem sick or anything either. Could this be something abnormal that I should see the vet for?
thanks

Kelly: If I were you I would mention this to the vet along with your fears. My Madison does have esophageal strictures from acid reflux & he does this same thing, only not always in the morning. Sometimes he spits something up like you describe & sometimes not. It is a scary sight to witness them do this. Madison is on medication for his reflux & does well otherwise. But since I know that the reflux can damage the esophagus, you might want to check this out at an early stage, before any harm is done. When Madison was diagnosed with the strictures the vet said that his prognosis was guarded. He has done well for 2 years now. I am not trying to scare you, but I encourage you to get this checked out before it becomes a bigger problem. Much luck to Manja. Hopefully this is nothing, but for your own peace of mind, do get it checked out.

thank you for your replies. Actually now that I think about it a few times there has been something else in the phlegm like a little piece of plastic or bark and ALWAYS in the morning. I hope it is what dot had as a pup but I will definitely mention this to the vet incase it is something more serious like what Madison has.
Thanks :)

Kelly: I was glad to hear Roosje's reply that it could be something fairly common. But I do think it is a good idea to mention this to your vet when you are there just to make sure. My dad's Frenchie will sometimes throw up too from eating soemthing she shouldn't. I think this breed just seems prone to do that a bit more than others, especially if they get hold of something they should not have. Best wishes to Manja.
