I am curious about your frenchies, ppl...
1. Is your dog a good bone chewer?
2. Are you afraid to feed bones? Why?
3. Do you leave your dog alone when you give bones?
4. What kind of bones do you give?
5. Do you think your dog has good teeth to chew bones?
6. If you show your dog a toy bone and a rec raw, witch one he/she will 'attack' first?
Thank you :)

1. Phoebe doesn't chew bones - she 'buries' them around the house.
2. I am personally afraid to feed her bones in case she either chokes, or they get lodged in her system. She happens to be a gulper.
3. IF I fed her a bone, I would never leave her alone with it.
4. I have given her marrow bones in the past, but she is not that excited about them.
5. I'm sure her teeth are perfectly suited to chewing bones - I'm basically the one with the problem!
6. Phoebe seems happier to 'chew' on a recreational bone than a real one.
Hope this helps!

1. Belzie is a great bone chewer, and she loves them.
2. We are not afraid to give her bones because we make sure to only give her bones about as big as her head (so she cant gulp them)
3. We do not leave Belzie alone with her bones - even though I don't like watching her chew them.
4. We give her beef marrow bones, our butcher cuts them down to size, but I have been wanting to try beef rib bones because I heard they work great too.
5. Re: her teeth. Yes, acutally we have been giving her frozen bones as a teething treat, and her adult teeth are comming in fast and fine.
6. Our Belzie doesn't like recreational, dog toy, no Kongs or bones or anything like that so she will go for a raw bone before anything else.

wait, wait. Call me naive, but are you saying that you go to the local butcher and get a raw meaty soup bone, take it out of the wrapper and give it to your dog? Just asking because our labs are always eating gross raw stuff they find on the farm and I thought it was gross, but Ellie might like it....and if it is good for her even better!

Yep - we finally found rib bones and she loves them, they are just the right size for her - I still find the raw bone thing a bit icky, but she enjoys it so much. Silly puppy!

I suppliment Pearl's diet with the Raw diet but the meat I buy has the bone ground up in the meat. I don't want to take the chance of her having a problem with a piece she swallowed that ended up to large.

Hi,
I give Peet and Sophie raw beef rib ones every once in awhile as a treat. They have some good sized ones at my local grocery store and they are not too expensive so I usually buy several and freeze them until I need them.
1. Sophie likes to chew on the rib bones, but gets bored with it after about 20 min.
2. No. At least not the rib bones b/c they are big solid bones. I do keep an eye on them when they are chewing on them.
3. No. I watch them.
4. Beef Rib bones
5. They don't seem to bother Sophie, so I guess her teeth are okay.
6. Sophie doesn't like any "fake" bones (kongs, nylabones etc.) She will chew on bullysticks or the occasional pressed rawhide, but I think she prefers the real thing/bone. Overall, Sophie is not much of a chewer compared to other dogs i've had. She'll chew for a little bit then come over for some love. She's a lover, not a chewer.

manja loves to chew on bones. His teeth are very small and rounded though so he doesnt tend to be able to crunch them very well. He kinda likes to just lick and suck and massage his gums with them.
I also get doggy bags from my local buther which is a bag of small off cuts, mainly beef and spare ribs raw.
I dont worry about manja choking too much although i always supervise him when hes eating raw chicken wings as he has almost choked twice on them. I cut each wing into 2 now as he tends to try and gulp the whole thing down at once without crunching it.
Manja would definitely choose a real bone over a fake bone. However i think he would choose his soft toy or ball over the real bone.:)

Huh, I guess I will stop taking them away from her then! Her big sisters bring her all sorts of bones from around the farm and she loves them, so I will let her have them! She thanks you all!

Thanks everybody for the posts! appicon
EllieMae: Just give that big bones and then is no problem at all. The rec. bones I give to Tuffy are that big ones, impossible to swallow! He spend hours playing! :D Raw bones are his first toy option! ;)
For the meaty/bone meals I feed only soft bones like rib laps, chicken bones, rabbit bones etc...
