I probably should know this, but don't yet. Molly is just over 6 months and I know she is small for her size. I am curious if she will grow any more or not. She grew taller in a big spurt, but seems to have a leaner build and hasn't changed much in the last month. For females, do they ever get the larger heads/faces?

Our dogs pretty much finish growing about a year...But they "fine tune "for about one year after that..Getting thicker about the chest and head etc.

Yes, the girls will get bigger heads and faces; not as big as the boys of course..And allot depends on the pedigree and background of your dog..If the ancestry of your pup is Eastern European, it may not get the broader muzzle of an American bred dog..Now, I am making a generaliztion..But this is mostly true..

The American bred (without Eastern European background) tend to be shorter and cobbier ,with a wider head and muzzle..

Some lines are early growers..and some take longer to mature..Dari matured slowly..One day ,all of a sudden, she had this gorgeous bid HEAD...at about 14 months.. And her chest droppped..So be patient..and ask the breeder how the line matures...

Abby seemed to finish around 14 months...same as Dari. Her weight was pretty much the same after a year...she stays at 22 pounds. I have to watch her weight, as she is not a big eater and is very active.

Ferris' build kept changing and he didn't really finish filling out until around 2 yrs. Think I've mentioned he had a "pin" head for quite some time...but now he has the nice bully boy head. He's a great eater and could probably be fat if it not for Abby keeping him moving. ;)

Being new to Frenchies, I've also wondered about the age at which most of these dogs physically mature. I always thought Mojo had a large masculine head, but I recently went to a big dog show in San Francisco and was absolutely blown away by the size of some on the male frenchie's heads. If I didn't own a frenchie and realize what ridiculous lovers they are, some of those males could even be considered a bit intimidating looking. If fact, some of the males had heads so large, that they looked a bit "top heavy".

I also noticed a significant difference between the sexes, mostly in head size, with the males having significantly broader, thicker looking skulls. I wonder if at 9 months, Mojo's head will finish out noticably larger than now? He plays with a 8 month old pied female frenchie who has a head as large as his. Do the differences between the sexes begin after a year? Can those of you who really know the breed tell early on if a male will finish more masculine than feminine or does it all boil down to the dog's lines?

A dog's head should always be bigger than a bitch;no matter what the breed..
Some lines mature faster than others,Some dogs heads get bigger than others..Allot has to do with the pedigree and heredity..When the dog is finished growing, it should be balanced; not topheavy or overdone...Being topheavy or overdone is not a Balanced dog. Balance is what a good show/pet is supposed to be

Will your dogs' head get bigger than it is at nine months?Probably; but how much is determined by the line he comes from..

Breeders know thier lines and how they mature; if they are slow or early..Ask your dogs' breeder when you should expect Mojo to finish growing..
