I wonder if any other frenchies sleep with their eyes open. It's kinda creepy when our Belzie does it... :p

As I read this thread, Polli is laying here with her eyes half open, snoring. She even blinks every once in a while, but I know she's not awake because she doesn't react when I wave my hands in front of her or whisper her name.

She just stuck her tongue out and kicked her hind leg. What is she dreaming about??

Must be chasing the neighbors cats... appicon

I was just wondering about this last night. I was lying in bed next to Lola and reading. She started snoring, but her eyes were wide open. I did a test: picked up her leg and let it drop. Yup. Sound alseep.

Lola also runs and eats in her sleep. At times it seems like she's having a small seizure (something I've definitely worried about). But eventually it just subsides. I think she's dreaming . . . probably about running after something and then stopping for a bite to eat.

Eve does that too. I think it is more CREEPY because of her ONE BLUE EYE staring up at me. Gives me chills. She also sticks out her tongue and does this suck suck sound like she's sucking on a bottle.

Hey everyone,

Don't worry about the twitching or small movements (seisure like acitivity) while sleeping. It is just an indication of the puppy being in a R.E.M. cycle- -like humans it is very important for our dogs to get their R.E.M. sleep so don't disturb them, just enjoy the show.
According to my very old first year psych text there is a part of the brain that keep us paralized durring R.E.M. sleep. It doesn't work as well in dogs and cats. In the book they describe an experiment they did where they removed the part of cats brains responsible for this immobilzation, and the cats actually got up (without waking) and acted out their dreams. Animal testing is wrong, and Labotamizing a cat for any reason is a bit sick -even if it was a long time ago.
So far Belize has not had her eyes open when she was twitching -she doesn't keep them open all the time - just enough to look a little bit like a comatose demon :)
She has gotten quite independent- she only likes to nap in her crate or in her bed now. Silly puppy.

Molly sleeps with her eyes half open, whites showing a bit - and does the twitch, snort, shake...... I laugh because she looks possessed. At first I would wake her up because I thought she was having some kind of seizure too, but she just looked at me like "look crazy lady, I'm trying to sleep here".

I got some great video of Belzie sleeping last week. She was snoring sooooo loud, and then went into REM sleep, and was twitching and licking her chops it was very amusing. I am going to try and figure out how to post it.
