Ali has a restricted diet..due to allergies. He eats beef oatmeal and cheese...I haven't tried anything else yet. But I am wondering since protein (no chicken) oatmeal and peas are his basic allowed foods from an allergist (a list was given to me by the rescue along with the lab results) Do i supplement his diet with vitamins? He is alert and active but I never had a pet with allergies and always was able to use a good pet food which would be complete. Any thoughts?

I am by no means an expert on this subject as of yet we have not found biggie to be allergic to anything however... I would venture to say that 1st maybe a holistic vet could be of some help to you. 2nd suppliments probably will help to build up whatever your babiest is missing however you want to be sure you give the right amounts and the right suppliments especially with all the allergies...3rd you may want to research the BARF diet. I know that a bunch of folks who have allergic dogs use this method of feeding. Lots of Luck!!!

I get all my advice from a lady who runs a gourmet pet supply store
(Everything she's told me to date has been bang on).
She says that she feeds her dogs (pugs) The Best Food. It consists of:

- Thawed raw ground chicken, buffalo, lamb, beef or ostrich (packaged specially for dogs)
- Omega 3-6-9 Gravy poured over top
- A garlic capsule
- A kelp capsule

She claims this diet works because it's totally clean (no preservatives,
essential fatty acids, antioxidents, organic).

Will be trying this as soon as Luna's metabolism slows down - she currently eats
more than I could afford to feed her in raw food (3 cups a day, sometimes more).

Does anyone agree/disagree with this food & supplement philosophy?

All I know is that I've now tried two brands of kibble (Nutro and Authority) and not only do the dogs not like them, but their shit s-t-i-n-k-s!! No regular gas, but when they do -- outta the room! I am currently waiting for a kibble by Welllnes and I also saw one named "Chicken Soup for Puppies" (or something like that) which is made with fresh chicken and lots and lots of vegetables and even some fruits - not a lot of preservatives, etc.

Personally I'm too lazy to make fresh food for them every day, but I like the idea a lot.
