Thanks for the info about heat stroke, Roosje.

On a similar topic, can you tell me about excercise?

I am currently taking Luna out once/day for
an hour walk or 45 minutes off-leash with other dogs.
She also gets around 4 play sessions a day for 15 minutes
in the house or at work. Vancouver is temperatate
in winter (5-12 celsius) and warm in summer (15 - 28 celsius).

Will it be too much in summer?
Is this okay for winter?
After some cooler walks, she'll go sit
on the heater - is she just being a wuss
or do you think I've let her get too cold?
Can this be dangerous, too?
We made a sweater for her, but she won't
wear it....I think she feels stupid, like the other
dogs might laugh at her.

I have also never seen Luna pant, only a slightly
fast breathing when she's run alot.
Do FBs pant?

Thanks!
B.

hmmmm well I have seen Biggie down right shiver when it gets in the negetive temperatures here..brrrrrrr...this past winter was one of those times. so he let us know when he was too cold. I would worry more about frostbite on the paws if you are not seeing any shaking and/or try a different jacket. We tried a few before we got one that he would actually walk in, the others he would just sit right down and not move an inch! so stubborn, so very stubborn...In the summertime I would say just be cautious and watch for the signs like panting yes frenchies pant...those with breathing problems tend to pant more from what i have seen (which would make sense)...

Roosje ----mo looks so darn pleased in that pool, cracks me up!!!

That is an adorable photo in the bath!!

I have noticed that Dot and Mo do not have any problems with the cold. Two winters ago it was at a certain point -10 degrees celsius (14 degrees fahrenheit). I had packed myself warm and wanted to keep the walk short in the park, I had such cold feet and hands :( . But Dot did not agree, she was enjoying herself and did not mind the cold at all. Mo and Dot both have a thick double coat. There are Frenchies who have thin coats and need an extra coat. I don't think that 5 -12 degrees celsius is too cold, keep Luna moving when it is cold to keep herself warm especially when it rains.

In the summer when it is warm I make them completely wet before we go for our walks http://80.126.213.52/~roos/dotkom/images/frenchies/dot/summer_day/2.html I keep the walks short and take a bottle of water with me. This is one of my favorite places to go in the summer with Dot and Mo http://80.126.213.52/~roos/dotkom/images/frenchies/dot_mo/sunday/9.html :) They can play all they want and take a dip when they get too hot. I also have a small pool in the garden where they can cool themselves, here a picture of Mo taking a dip :) http://80.126.213.52/~roos/dotkom/images/frenchies/dot_mo/xxx/bath01.jpg

There are French Bulldogs who pant, some more than others. Luna is one of the lucky ones appicon
