Today we noticed our 2 month old puppy has a pungent odour coming from her face. It doesn't seem to be coming from her ears, although one has a tiny bit of brown matter in it (look like dirt almost). Not sure if it's related, but she vomited bile this morning after waking up as well. Any advice?

Sorry, I can't offer much advice, because I haven't experienced too many foul odors with Sidney. I do wipe his face (in between the wrinkles) with a puppy wipe pretty frequently. He has lost that puppy breath and it sure doesn't smell like roses, but he's a dog, so I don't figure I can do too much about that.

It would be safest to make a visit to the vet. Especially if other symtoms have manifested such as repeated vomiting or refusing to eat. The symptoms alone are fairly non-specific. Pups occasionally can have some skunky breath and may vomit for a variety of reasons. However, an odor and vomiting can be indicative of an infection or of a gastro-intestinal problem ranging from dietary issues to a blockage. There may be no reason to worry, but best to err on the side of caution. I'll be thinking of you and your puppy and hoping all is well.

I'd make a trip to the vet to get that looked at. The odour is indicative of a yeast infection... but the brown matter in the ears is more indicative of ear mites (could just be dirt too, but can't hurt to check).
Best to get a diagnosis from the vet. Then you can choose how to treat it with at least certainty about what it is you're trying to treat :)

Thanks for the advice everyone. We cleaned out Lola's little wrinkles, and the odour disappeared. We've started to do that every other day and so far, so good. We took her to the vet about the stuff in her ears, and also because we noticed some patches of thinning hair. The vet told us the hair loss in most likely the result of hormonal changes brought on by the stress of Lola coming to a new home, changing puppy foods etc. As for her ears, the brown stuff was just wax. Better safe than sorry though, right?

Always better safe than sorry, especially with a young pup :) Good to hear there's nothing serious going on there.
