Hi everybody!

I am new member of this website and a new frenchie mom too. After a couple of days reading this forum, also de boxer forum, I decided to switch to BARF diet. I am learning so much with you all. :)

I have 3 dogs, a Bichon Frisé (m 11 years old), a Teckel (m 1 year old) and a 5 month pied male Frenchie. We live in Brazil. Always feeded them with Hills Sience Diet thinking I was feeding the best food for dogs, this is what my VET always said to me. :(

Reading you I realized how crap Sience Diet is then 4 days ago I switched the 3 of them to BARF diet. I did a fast switch. No more kibble for my babies. Today is my 4th day in raw, they are eating carcasses, chicken wings and ground ox muscle. MY oldie Bichon is a bit lazy to eat bones, he likes only the carcasses and I didnt force him..he is old. The Teckel is an expert on bones and the little Frenchie is learning how to manage it. hehe

They did all kind of stools, many diferent texture and colours... now it is hard, dry and getting white. Since the first day in raw i gave them a Kefir tablespoon (http://users.chariot.net.au/~dna/kefirpage.html) They liked very much.

They are looking fine, a little thinner, well i think it is quite normal. Doest it? They are loving their new diet! appicon

Monday i want to start with vegetables...

Any sugestion to my dogs? Could you please help me with my oldie Bichon? What is not good to give for a senior dog? I would like suggestions from you! :)

Thanks and sorry about my poor English.

Ciao!!:)

Rossje, Thank you very much! ;)

I was looking in to your website, your frenchies are super cute :) Maybe they are Tuffy's cousins. My baby was born in de la parure kennel and i saw that your frenchies has that blood too. In the pic he was 3 month old, now he is 5. He has a great temperament and of course he is cutie cutie! He is my youngest baby.

Maybe franp, gmacleod or other member can help me. In Brazil we have many kind of tropical fruits and vegetables. I only know that onions is not good. What about coconut and passion fruit? Any advise about tropical fruit or vegetable? What is the best fruit and veg to start with?

Thanks all!!

Hi Tati,
First, your English is fine..much better than my Portugese would ever be:lol:

I just posted a new thread the other day..Barf for beginners. The title of the thread is A good resource..Read that, it will answer allot of your questions.

if your dogs stool is white and hard , there may be too much bone. The proportion should be 80% meat to 20% bone..

What fruit to give?I don't like giving too much fruit at all. Way too much sugar. And it can cause diarhea..As for coconut; very fatty..

For your older dog; grind the bone in the chicken..What kind of carcass are you using?

There have been numerous discussions of raw feeding here.Go back and read them and use them as a guide line. then start reading "The Ultimate diet.".Or "Give your dog a bone"by Ian Billinghurst. You can even particpate in one of the many raw feeding internet groups.

Hi franp,

I was reading 'Barf for beginners',very good to guide me. Thanks!!appicon

I was feding 50% bones! OK, will give less bones then. I am starting using chicken carcass...I also use ox tail, they like it very much.

Well, I live in top floor apartment :( and only give meat/bones in the kitchen. Fruits or vegs could help me a lot as a treat.

Do you know something about KEFIR? If not, take a look in the website I posted above. I am using it daily till they get used to the raw diet.

Ciao ciao! Thank you very much.
