View Full Version : Refusing to eat

I have been feeding raw (Oma's Pride) since the end of August. My dogs have been loving it...until recently. For the last week or so, Allie has been refusing to eat until the evening when she is so hungry that she'll eat anything. I put her food down in the morning, she takes a look and walks away. I try again in the afternoon...same thing. I have been alternating the same foods since I started, no changes in food. She has also lost interest in raw bones. I haven't seen any changes in her stool, behavior, energy level, etc. I have no idea what's going on with her. Has anyone else had this experience? Any ideas/ suggestions/ help would be appreciated!

She has also been itching and smelling a little yeasty recently, which I don't believe is related to the raw (?). I've been adding a little plain yogurt to her food (which she likes). I have been giving her occasional treats which is most likely the source of the problem. I've tried Innova bars and had to stop because she had a problem with them. I've tried Wellness bars, same thing. I recently bought California Natural Health Bars which must be causing the current allergy/yeast problem so I've stopped using those as well. I can't figure out which ingredient would be the culprit. There is no corn, wheat, barley, beef or pork. It could possibly be the rice or oatmeal in the bars? I give her natural treats such as apples and carrots, but she really loves the crunchy bar treats the best. Before I give up, does anyone know of any other treats I might try for dogs with allergies?

Thanks...

Hi Laurie,

When I took Molly to the dermatologist, the only treats she said she could have were carrots and apples. Luckily, Molly loves both!

I think both rice and oatmeal could be allergens. It is SO difficult, isn't it? It is the worst when they are constantly scratching.

I have such a hard time not giving her little tastes of what we are eating. It is really tough sticking to this food trial.

Hi Laurie,
My dog Marcel can be fussy when it comes to eating, a dog will not starve it self. Sounds to me like she is being a little fussy too. Try not feeding her for a day and see how she reacts when you do feed her, i bet she will eat for you. it could be that she wants only to eat treats, Marcel tried that one with me, but when i cut out the treats he started eating his food. Natural Balance makes a sweet potato and duck treat if you are looking for a new biscuit to try. Good luck i know it can be frustrating!

Judy...Allie is doing fine...thanks for asking. She ate last night and this morning without a problem, but tonight she wasn't interested. It sounds as though others have experienced this so I'm not going to worry. I'll just continue to keep an eye on her.
