DeDe' is 5 months old now and seems like she spends alot of time sleeping. She tire's really easy. I read on here how active all your frenchies are and she just so laid back. It's kinda like everything is just "oh bother'.She use to be a little more active. She's not sick, shes eating the same. Is it possible at this age, she may be showing that her personality may be more slow and easy going? or is this just a normal faze for them ? And she'll snap out of it and terrorize me later  .She's really fat for her size I think. She's 10 inches tall and is 14 lbs now. Maybe I've let her get too heavy???

That sounds a lot like Sidney, who is 4 1/2 months. Sidney is very "mixed" energy. At home he's usually mellow and calm; he likes to play with his chew toy, sit in my lap and cuddle, etc. Some times he gets hyper if he hasn't had enough playtime during the day--then in the evenings he can turn into a crazy psycho dog who runs circles around and around through the house and tries to chew my shoes, pants, etc. About a month ago (when he was 3 months old), the chewing was more of a problem, but he's settled quite down a bit in that regard.
When I take him to the dog park, he's 100% hyper because he LOVES LOVES LOVES to play with other dogs. He chases all the other dogs and would run practically non stop for hours if I didn't make him take a few mini-breaks. I think he could go even longer than that, but I try to stop him at about the two hour mark so he doesn't wear himself out. I always worry that he'll overexert himself.

Donna...I agree with Roosje...wouldn't hurt to take her in and discuss her activity changes and weight w/ your vet. I can only go by my experience and at 5 months Abby was totally berserk and Ferris, even tho he is much more laid back, was very active at that age.

Your pup might just be laid back, I sometimes wish my puppy was like that. She goes into pycho mode as soon as she gets up. She begins puppy classes on monday, it is funny cause I kind of think it is funny when she starts acting nuts and trying to destroy everything, but it is time to change.

That's a good point. Sidney is a pretty mellow dog overall, but he certainly does not tire easily.

Thanks, everyone for your responses. She has been to a Vet recently, so I dont think she is sick or anything. I spend alot of time in my office working and she's in there with me, she could be bored I guess. She plays with her toys, and does get a little excited when the cat comes in.But most the time she just wants up in my chair with me ( which is where she is now).I do take her out for a long walk around the place and she use to pull me around, now she just kind of has a 'well if I have to' attitude about it.The weather here is now in the 70,s and perfect for going out. It just does'nt seem to take much to get her breathing hard and tire her out. I'm really thinking that maybe I have let her get way too heavy at too young of an age for her size, and it just tires her out easily. She's gotten very round and cobby. She was'nt quite this fat at 4 months and she was more active then. We are taking off this weekend, so I'm going to see if the new surroundings perk her up any. This is the first puppy/dog I have ever had that doesnt get excited when company shows up  .It's really a nice change, I dont have to fuss at her for jumping in anyones face  But again I just want her to be ok, and hope she is healthy, and that this is just her been 'herself' right now.

"berserk" I love it. Totally describes Tank. He'll be 6 months old in 9 days and he is quite bi-polar. Super agressive, 'I'm gonna show you', jumping way high up in the air, "Wait! Dad just went in to the kitchen." Then he'll pass out in the middle of the sofa.

Sounds like my Blaster, he will run and run and run until he can't go any further and then just calapse.
Although in the mornings, he luvs to snuggle and stay in bed and hides under the covers so dad won't find him.
Blaster by the way was named after our 4wheeler. Blaster rides everyweekend with us in his backback, he has doggie doggles and just loves the wind hitting his face.
My concern is that he is only 10 .lbs at 18 weeks. is that kinda low?
Thanks.

Hudson....Abby is listed in the dictionary as one of the definitions of berserk!
We brought Abby home when she was only 6 wks old (another story) and she was really active at that age. I have to get up very early but Jim does not. So....I would get up, take Abby outside to do her thing, then put her on the bed with my sleeping husband and leave for work! Jim about went nuts...trying to get in some extra zzzzz's with little Abby jumping all over the bed. I would chuckle all the way to work..... and this went on for months...:D

That is about on par with Tank at that age. It is definitely at the light end but it just means he is easier to carry around. Since he is so full of energy (and I assume he follows you into the kitchen every time you go near it) I wouldn't worry about it.

Tank used to be wild in the morning. Now he gets taken outside, does his business, comes back in, expects to be put on the couch and covered with a 'bankee' and goes back to sleep. He must think he is a teenager. Then he gets up and goes bonkers for a few hours. I get home at night he is a wild man again ready to take on anything (except stairs, hates those stairs).

:D That is one of the joys of owning one (or two!) of these beasties!!! Coming home from work.... knowing they are there waiting with all the energy they have stored up during the day.....just wonderful.....

it's so funny to read these.
a typical day for the biscuit:
wake up at the crack of dawn, stretch. stretch more. stretch across the floor. (my husband and i call this "the army man").
go outside, do business.
come inside and....how do i describe this? it's like his energy takes over his body a little. he may run in circles, scratch an itch, charge the cat, trot around the apartment. it's SO funny!
he'll inhale his breakfast, of course, and then want to "snuggle" in our bed, which for the biscuit, includes a lot of face licking and trying to get "comfortable". also hilarious, as he's not tired (like us), but he knows that being in the bed is a priviledge he doesn't want to waste. bless his heart, he tries to just lie down and sleep with us, which eventually (after twenty minutes) tires him out enough that he *does* go to sleep. by this time, naturally, he has thoroughly woken us up.
as a general rule, he has a 20 minute freakout period, followed by rest. thank god. i can always count on him to relax and tire out, even if he seems completely possessed, after those twenty minutes.
i love that dog. he's such a character.

I have found this to all be very interesting. I have to ad that with my 5, none are what I would call hyper. They are all pretty laid back and calm, which is what I like about the particular line that mine are. They play and run around chasing each other when let outside in their playpen. But in the house they are in general, pretty quiet and laid back. They done't really sleep a lot, but quietly play with and chew on their toys. They will bark once or twice when someone comes to the door, but that is it.
As for the original post, I agree that if there is any doubt it would not hurt to have things checked out with a vet and let him knoiw of your concerns. But I would not be overly concerned until I knew there was a reason to be.

i wouldn't call my puppy hyper, either. not at all. he just has brief freakout periods, which are more about his clumsiness and playfulness than maniacal hyperactivity. i would say that he has these brief periods about 3-4 times a day (less if he gets very tired out at the dog run), and the rest of the time he's chilling with me (also what i LOVE about this breed).
