Hello Everyone,
I'm coming to you from what is seeming to be a vast doggie wasteland that is Northern Nevada. I say this because I can't find any breeders that are close. While we aren't quite ready to bring a new puppy into our house yet, my wife and I have decided that it will be a french bulldog, or 2, when the time comes. We currently are at the beck and call of a 13 year old Cocker Spaniel that is the queen of the house and is not inclined to welcoming newcomers to her domain and in deference to her, we have decided to wait before bringing anyone new to the family.
I've always been a fan of the mush faced bulldog and I have been leaning toward the English Bulldog, but my wife was wanting a dog that was a little more active. After meeting a couple of frenchies and their people at the local PetsMart, we asked a few questions and found out that the french bulldog is a more active dog than the English, their's participated in agility, but weren't overly active. Since they have some of the same traits, characteristics, and health concerns of the English, I feel pretty good about our decision. Any other information and anecdotes that you more experienced frenchie people can share, that will help us make sure of our decision would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. Sorry about the long post

Hello there!! I have to agree with Roosje on two counts, 1st, "you won't ever regret the decision on getting a Frenchie, they are something special" and 2nd "find a good breeder". As you are already aware frenchies are pre-disposed to a host of health issues so finding a good breeder is important. You are also probably aware that frenchies can be pricey like enlish bulldogs. I would expect to pay anywhere from 1500-2500$ for a frenchie from a breeder. There are also some frenchies in rescue young and old you could contact your states frenchie rescue contact to see if there are any dogs nearby that might suit your family. www.frenchbulldogrescue.org what else? well, I have always loved the english bullies but when it came time to get our 1st doggie we felt a frenchie fit our lifestyle a little better...one thing they definately have in common is the bullishness..they can be so darn stubborn sometimes..well, at least Biggie can be..I think that all frenchies are different when it comes to their activeness..I imagine there are some owners on this site who would literally laugh out loud if you mentioned agility and frenchie in the same sentance but then there are some frenchies with boundless energy. I would guess that when/if you meet a breeder you will be able to get a good idea of how active the pups may or may not be. what else...let's see..oh, frenchies are portable!! well most of them at least:-) frenchies (in the US at least) should not really exceed 28lbs (if you are showing them). Biggie is 26lbs and still has a little more growing to do but he is totally portable which is nice:-) a few additional thoughts....
frenchies need their folds cleaned
frenchies are very heat and cold sensitive
frenchies are companion dogs and really just want to be with you
frenchies are not outside dogs
frenchies do shed
frenchies are total clowns..i laugh every single day at something or another that biggie does
frenchies have a reputation of being hard to housebreak (i did not find this to be true)
frenchies are not jogging a marathon (at least most of them)
frenchies might snore or make other odd purring type noises...but all the noises are sooooo endearing:-)
if you are lucky yours may yodel...someone has a yodeling frenchie on this board i think
I think that's all i have for now. All I can say for sure is that even though I grew up with big dogs, I would be hard pressed to ever even consider another breed of dog, frenchies rock!!!
no bias here

:p :p :p I have a yodeling Frenchie!!! I have two Frenchies (Abby and Ferris). Abby yodels big time but Ferris does not. Why? Who knows? Yes, these special dogs are clowns and I cannot express how much love I have for this breed. They give so much laughter and love to our household and I thank the Good Lord every day that we found them, and they found us! I cannot imagine life without them.
