Does anyone know of a REALLY sturdy toy that's appropriate for Frenchies? Piper doesn't seem to want to play as much as work on destroying toys! We do well with nylabones - she really loves them and works on them forever! appicon She'll only play with those cheap pet store tennis balls because she can crush them in her mouth and then break them apart. "Real" tennis balls have no appeal because she can't destroy them. (And she seems to be above fetching! Frisbees are not exciting either! ) For a while she was playing with an oversized tennis ball that was as big as her head and was somehow getting her mouth around the thing to kill it! She has no interest in hard rubber toys such as Kongs - unless they are full of food. I feel like I've tried every imaginable toy out there and can't find anything she can't kill! (She looooves going to my mother's house because she raid my mom's dog's toybox for all the forbidden things - soft squeaky animals and rawhid flip chips! ) Christmas is coming up soon and her stocking will be empty!

Ah ha. You have a toy killer!
Have you tried the canvas toys - like Ruff Wear?
Or...how about Planet Dog's rubber balls and bones?

Stella likes homemade toys, we give her liter bottles and she has a time with that b/c she pounces on top of it and then it pops out from underneath her and she loves it. We have a hard time finding Stella toys too b/c she destroys everything.

Christmas is the best!
We have a game in our house on Christmas morn.
After you open your gift, you must scrunch up the paper into a ball and "whip" it at the person who gave you the present! Makes for great fun for the dog and look out if there is a box involved!
But remember, it's always fun and games until someone looses an eye! :D

Thanks for all the great suggestions! We have tried the Planet Dog things and other hard rubber toys but she's not interested simply because she can't destroy them. Soda bottles, wrapping paper rolls, etc. she has no interest in. Wood, on the other hand, she loves! In the winter she takes the kindling from next to the fireplace and runs away with it because she knows I'm coming after her! For a while she really liked the Kong shaped tennis ball and a toy from Pet Stages. It's a hard rubber ball with three nylon ropes going through the center. She liked that one because she'd work out the knots and shred the rope! She hasn't played with them in a while and I'm not sure if it's because she's bored with them, not feeling 100%, or too darn hot!
I'm also discovering that Frenchies are a bit too smart for some toys. Years ago I bought her a Buster Cube. I figured it was pretty indestructable and it would keep her busy. It lasted a day. She discovered that if she throws it down the stairs onto the tile floor the center breaks out and she can get the food easily! You just gotta love 'em! :p

Smart Frenchie! Adora like to play with tennis balls, she pounces on them like a cat. Her favorite thing to do is to carry one up to the top of the stairs and then drop it and chase it like a maniac.
They certainly are inventive little critters!

I also have a hard time finding toys that can't be destroyed in minutes! My dogs have little interest in anything rubber like a kong. They love nylabones, especially the large circle. The only other toy I have found that they really love is the "Hartz Dental Chew 'N Clean Teething Ring". They have them in most grocery stores.

Laurie, is the Dental Chew Ring a green, gritty covered cardboard like chew? If so, I had given that to Piper years ago and it made a TREMENDOUS mess in my livingroom! I wound up giving the rest of the package to a friend who was equally shocked by the mess!
I've never tried the nylabone ring but now perhaps I will. I've seen it and it didn't seem like she'd be able to chew it but if your frenchies have no problems she shouldn't either.

Piper's breeder had a great idea she passed onto me...
She goes to a local thrift store and buys the stuffed animals for her dogs. This is a great idea, since you can indulge their love for "disembowling the naughty teddy" and make it affordable :-)

I started buying sherpa fleece at the fabric store and sewing together simple shaped to be disemboweled. Believe me, I've gotten tired of it fairly quickly! It has become a great treat to get one of "mom's homemade toys!"
Someone else had suggested that I buy thrift shop animals also but I was afraid to do that. I don't want to give her "permission" to tear apart the few stuffed animals I have around here. As it is when she visits my mother she steals beanie babies and runs away with them!

Here's a link to look at the dental chew:

It's not the "green, gritty covered cardboard like chew" you asked about
Allie's favorite choices for chewing, if she were allowed to pick, would be a big bark covered log or a big cardboard box!
Frenchies may be little but I don't believe they find any chew toys "too big"!
