Behavioral or Dirty Dog? Hurley is 10 months old and peeing in his crate. He always walked prior to being put in the crate, but still will pee whether we are gone for 1 hour or 4. He does not always do this, but more often then he should be. Consistenly at least once a week. He is going into the vet to see about a UTI, but I tend to side on a behavioral issue. Any thoughts to cure my dirty dog? Thanks.

Hmm. If it's not a UTI, it could be 2 things:

1. He's marking of territory - neutred yet? "Boys will be boys!"
2. He's upset about something - put some anti-pee spray in there and have a chat with him about his feelings.

Another possibility is that his crate is too big.

Anti-Pee spray is this a real thing? He is neutered, and the many talks we have just don't seem to sink in. Can't wait until he is a teenager.
Thanks for the thoughts.

Yes, anti-pee spray is a real thing!! You can get it at the pet store and some people use it for cats who spray on their carpets, etc. Make sure it's totally non-toxic, since he will be breathing it!!!

Do you put on a sympathetic face for the chats? Do you let him speak openly, without interruption?

He doesn't have a UTI does he?

I'm going to put anti-pee spray around our toilet for those filthy men who can't get it in the bowl. Jeez! How hard can it be? If you can write your name in the snow...

LOL

Borgan,

Don't you know the secret? Its not anti-pee spray.

Give him a target.

Find toilet paper that has a bull's eye printed on each sheet, tell 'the men' to float one sheet on the water's surface and they'll have a reason to 'be neat'.

Cigarette butts work good too but don't encourage someone to smoke simply to clean up the bathroom.

I don't think it will work with Frenchies.

My girlfriend would float Cheerios in the bowl when she was potty training her son - they were his "targets" :D

It worked like a charm!

You guys slay me!!!! :)

I would have never thought of that (cherious, TP, cigarettes), 'cause I've never had to potty train anyone, let alone a boy... until I got married!!!!
I fell in last night, too.

Sorry, no suggestions on the last one. I have two daughters so there is no one else to blame a raised toilet seat on.

We've always had male dogs so there is at least one other guy here. Of course, our Frenchie is totally a Momma's boy so he only comes to me when he wants to gnaw on someone and roughhouse.

(Did you try the Cherrios one on your husband yet?) LOL
