Piper's breeder had him on kibble and canned.

I'm interested in everyone's perspective on this canned food.

Ingredients are (as per the can):
1) Fresh ground lean red beef roast and steak meat
2) fresh beef liver and kidney
3) carrots
4) vegetable gums
5) onion powder
6) calcium
7) vitamin and mineral supplements
8) sodium nitrate and water sufficient for processing

No cereals, grains, starches, artificial colour or salt added.

Guaranteed Analysis
Moisture - 84.5%
Protein - 10.4%
Fibre - .2%
Ash - .9%
Fat - 6.3%

Its made locally in BC.

I'm curious to hear everyone's thoughts on the ingredient list.

thanks

Well, it looks reasonable so far as meat content and protein levels go for a canned food. I wonder what "vegetable gums" are though... I also note that onions are actually quite toxic to dogs, so I'm not too thrilled about seeing onion powder in there.

Ever tried Merricks canned food? From what I can gather about that one, it's just about good enough to eat yourself :D http://www.merrickpetcare.com/store/canned_dog_food.php and Canadian retailers at http://www.merrickpetcare.com/locator/index.php?st=otr

I'm not so sure about the onion powder either. Worries me a bit! The other ingredients sound good though.

Onion powder should be avoided. Here are some web pages with info regarding onion/ onion powder toxicity:

 I had no idea about onion powder's toxicity for dogs!

It sounded so good - but that's the end of that dog food!!

Thanks for the feedback - I would have never known otherwise.

I just looked at the Merricks website and Puppy Plate ingredient content - It's making me hungry!! :D

I think Piper might have some Merricks in his future.
