Hi everyone,

We are Brooke and Morgan from Vancouver, BC and we will be flying to Edmonton, AB next Saturday to pick up our new puppy. We are very excited - she is a 12 week old brindle. Does anybody have words of wisdom? Tricks for house training? Best toy ideas?

We love all your posts! Especially the pictures:)

Cheers,
B & M.

Thanks, Roosje!

I want to upload some photos for you, but I can't figure out how...?
Do I have to put them on my server, then make an absolute link
in html in the body of the message? Is there an easier way?

I also wanted to know about bedding -
we are going to collect puppy (calling her Luna)
on the plane, using a soft-sided sherpa bag under the seat.
Can we use this as a "crate" for her as well, or do we
have to go buy a hard plastic one that she will grow into?
I know that she will probably fit in the soft-sided one until
she's at least 6 months old, and I was hoping at that point
to buy her a regular dog bed. Your thoughts?

I've heard in another group and those sherpa bags seems to be good. Lots of them are using them.

For a crate in the house, it just depends how you want to use it. I raised Tirsa with a in house kennel. Just to be sure that she couldn't destroy anything but also in the beginning they are not housetrained for the night. So unless you want to go out every night for a couple of weeks, an inhouse kennel is really advisable.

Have lots of fun with your puppy!

Thanks for your words of wisdom!

One thing - I went to the photo link to upload pictures
of the new addition, and it has given me a message saying
that this section is out of service.

Is anyone else experiencing this, or is it my browser?

Still having probleams accessing photos...
whether I click "Photos" at the top of the nav,
or click "Gallery" underneath each message, I
get a message saying, "The boards are temporarily down for maintainence."
Does this mean I have something in my browser turned off, if others
can access it (like Roosje!)?

I really want to show you guys our pup:)

Thanks,
Brooke.

Welcome & Congratulations on your new puppy. appicon I think that a crate might be a good idea. If you do buy one you need to get one that is not too big for your dog. If it is too big they may use it to do their business. I know they say an animal does not eliminate where it sleeps, but if they have too much room in the crate, they will. Best of luck whatever you decide to do.

Hi All,

Our new pup arrived on the plane on Saturday, and since then, our home has been a whirlwind of puppy activity! Luna is very sweet and cuddly; she loves to sleep on my tummy, follow Morgan around at the heels, and today she discovered a loose piece of linoleum, so she's decided to remodel the kitchen - must have been all those episodes of "While You Were Out" that inspired her. She should start her own doggy show called "While You Were Out (I Chewed A Leg Off The Table)".

Anyway, we're having loads of fun! Made a page with photos; just couldn't get the photo page on the board to work.

One question: When left alone for approximately one second, Luna cries like it's the end of the world...
I know she's adjusting to a being without littermates, but it's best to just let her cry, right? We would like our dog to be as independent as possible.

Thanks!
B.

Brooke:
Luna is just adorable. I am looking forward to hearing all the puppy stories & seeing how lovely she becomes as she grows. Best wishes! Get some sleep when you can. :)

Thanks for your nice compliments, everyone! And the advice, too.

It seems as though everyone trains their dogs differently, and the books all have different techniques. I spoke with Morgan about what Roosje said (bringing the dog in the crate in the bedroom at night), and he said "absolutely no":( Men are as territorial as their canine counterparts (wink wink), so I guess I'll just have to bear the crying until she finally gets used to going solo at night:(

The crate is working out nicely, though. We leave it open, but have put a baby gate up in the kitchen to keep her safe. She uses the crate as a bed and a place to chew toys, and goes there willingly. Likes to ride in it in the car.

One last comment: French Bulldogs make the weirdest noises!!! Her crying goes from a whimper, to a "woo-woo", to a shreik, and then this deep throaty "woof-woof" that sounds like she's trying to be a big dog. She's not fooling me! The little snorts, snuffles, hiccups and burps are really cute, too. The farts are not so cute...but at least we know she's "working":)

Were your dogs like this as babies? Do they like to be in your laps/at your heels all the time? Do they puke if they eat, and then play really hard? Do they hate the rain, too? Did it take much patience to train them at first? How long does the adjustment period last, in general?

I love all your pictures! Every dog is so distinct-looking...and those facial expressions!!!!

YES!!! These Frenchies do make the weirdest of noises! Get used to it! :D These dogs yodel. The first time I heard Abby yodel I was amazed and in awe. This is just a part of their charm and what makes them so unique. Abby yodels when she can't get to the toy that is under the couch. She also yodels when she is on walks and wants attention from strangers. These dogs are so wondeful. :D
