Hi everyone~

I am always reading about bully sticks on here...dogs carrying them around for days, burying them, sleeping with them, etc.

I had no idea what these sticks were, but I figured my guys were really missing out on something good...

Last week while in the pet store, I came across BULLY STICKS... appicon

I bought each of my dogs a 12" stick ($5.49 each! ). I couldn't wait to get home and give them their first bully sticks. They were very excited and enthusiastically started chewing away. I was keeping an eye on them and they were doing fine. It had only been about 15-20 minutes when I went to take a closer look at how they were doing and discovered the sticks were GONE!

Tonight I went into the grocery store and just happened to come across another brand of bully sticks, much thicker and harder than the last, so I thought I'd give it another try. These were 7"/ $2.50. Again, they almost devoured these things within a very short period of time. I took away what little was left (a wet, slimy mess) and threw them out.

Does any one else have a dog that devours these things in minutes?
What brand should I be looking for?
Do you order them or buy them in the pet store?
How much should they be allowed to eat? (I'm sure that eating the whole stick within minutes, is probably not a good thing!)

I need some BULLY STICK advice! Thanks!

Laurie,
First, buy the longer ones.
And yes, Ms Dari is addicted to them;in cycles..There are weeks that she will not be without a bullystick in her mouth, working on it 24/7.Then for NO apparent reason, she will ignore them.Right now, Bullysticks are persona non grata. In a few days, they will be the most important thing.
And when she is enamored; they are an obsession.

As for price:I have gotten them in the smaller stores in NYC. Usually about $2 for the 12"ones. And if it is a small store, I ask for a discount cause I will buy 12 at a time, or more.

Once I tried buying on line, I was disappointed, They were thinner and not the same quality.Took Dari much less time to destroy..I do take it away from her when it is about 4". Afraid she might choke.

Laurie,

I don't remember how old your dogs are, but it seems the older they get, the stronger their jaws, the quick the bully sticks disappear! I would definately buy the 12" ones. I have noticed that certain brands last longer than others. If you have a Petco, the Red Barn brand seem to last the longest. Just look for the thickest, darkest bully sticks. I have no idea why (not sure I want to know), but the darker colored ones seem to last longer.

I purchased a 15 bullysticks for 25 bucks on ebay. They are the 12 inch variety, and Scout loves them. If you want the name of the vendor I puchased from, email me privately. Lynne
