Hello all. I found this board a couple days ago and have gone through quite a few pages and I am now introducing myself and have a couple questions as well..... I am not new to dogs, but yes new to Frenchies and my new girl will be here in about 2-3 weeks. She's 7 weeks today. I saw her in person for the first time today and WOW I am in LOOOOOOOOOOOVE....lol.... She's so cute. After researching the breed for almost a year, I think she's what I was looking for. My husband, who was adament at first to add another K9 to the household, FELL IN LOVE... HEAD OVER HEALS!!!!!!!!!!!

I am going to try to post some pics of her... I took a bunch of her and her 2 siblings today... any comments welcome. She is not off Ch's, her parents are sired by ch's, however she is just going to be a spoiled pet here :D

My questions:
Is she a Honey-Pied? I always thought pied had more patches than she has.
Also.... what product or are baby wipes good enough to keep the tear smears on her winkles clean? I've never dealt with that with my other kids with fur.

I am so excited.......

Hello frenchielove! And welcome to the board! I'm pretty new here too, as well as to Frenchies. My Frenchie is a seven month old brindle girl named Elsi.

I believe, that even one patch on a white Frenchie is enough to make him pied. And the tear smears... we haven't had any! Not one tear yet! ;)

Congratulations on your new baby! Waiting to see the pics of her! :)

Hello, welcome to the board.
I just approved your photos of your cute puppy :) but please do not upload in the Members category as stated in the rules. I had to move all your photos to the puppy category. Thanks.

She is not off Ch's, her parents are sired by ch's, however she is just going to be a spoiled pet here :D
It is possible you got your puppy from a byb (http://www.bulldogworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=386). Usually in the US with French bulldogs the reputable breeders do not as a rule let pups go before at least 12 weeks.

Actually the pup hasn't come home yet... Let me explain...
I wouldn't call the breeder a backyard breeder at all She's an older lady and this is the first breeding she's ever done. The mother is 4 years old, with like 5 points from limited showing. The momma is off Ch's herself. She paid someone she knows a stud fee for their Ch... when the breeding time came (when momma came in heat, had health tests and ovulated) after waiting 2 years the CH stud was unavailable at the time so she used another stud (who's not a CH) because she was already 4 years old... she won't be bred again (so I was told). If someone considers this lady a backyard breeder, everyone's entitled to an opinion...maybe she is in some people's eyes. She said she made the breeding to keep a male so her daughter can show him. I honestly feel I got a great puppy, from great lines and that's all that matters to me. Only God knows what the future will bring and hopefully she will be a healthy dog with no major issues and hopefully I made the right decision going with this puppy. We all make mistakes, praying I didn't.

I would never acquire a puppy from someone "I felt" is a puppymill or byb... Some people may consider someone who doesn't show dogs consistently a byb. "My opinion is"... not every correct specimen in a breed is shown. A lot of people don't show dogs for many reasons.... kids, money, transportation, personal health issues, show politics, etc... It's not 100% guaranteed that health tested ch's wont produce offspring that will have health issues down the road. Since I am not really into showing dogs anymore and my house dogs are getting old I was just looking for a HEALTHY companion, to love and spoil. I only care that she's healthy and has a great temperament. I am not new to dogs and know how to raise and care for them and the reason I would like to bring the puppy home at what is considered *too early* for this breed. I feel 9-10 weeks is old enough, but I am new to the breed so what do I know  She's not here yet because the breeder doesn't want to let her go.... Hopefully I can convince the breeder to let me take her when she's 9-10 weeks, if it were up to me she would have come home yesterday lol...

Sorry so long, just explaining the situation. Sorry about the picture screw up, I am new to this forum and didn't even look to see what catagory...oops :o

Welcome!

There are several products made specifically for tear stains, although I find the best thing to do is to use an eye-cleaning pad daily. I buy the ones from Drs Foster and Smith because the solution can actually be used in the eye. These are good to clean the folds in their cutie-pie faces :) I would be afraid that with a baby wipe, you might irritate the eye. Their website is www.drsfostersmith.com

Looking forward to seeing your pictures!

Hi there and welcome to this site. I am sure that you (as a new Frenchie owner) will have lots of questions and this is a great forum to seek advice and learn from others also new to this breed. Hopefully you will also benefit from those of us who have gone through the "learning" curve with this very special and very unique breed. There is a lot to learn and I am glad that you found this site. Regards....

Thank you for the replies.... I know I have a lot to learn about Frenchies, hence why I am here :)

As far as the age issue... My real first dog at about 17yrs old I got at about 6 months old, she was my brother's dog and he gave her up to me. My other dogs I got between them between 8-12 weeks old. However, I did get one at 3 weeks 3 days old because the momma caught Mastitis and they had to be weaned early. She is my heart and soul, 8 years old next month and has never had an issue because she was seperated earlier than say my other dogs.... Any pup I bring in has other k9's to socialize with. I don't know if Frenchies differ that much from other breeds at 8-9weeks old, but I don't feel getting a pup at say 9 weeks vs 12 weeks makes a big difference... from my previous experience (not with Frenchies obviously). Just my opinion... I will take her home when the breeder is ready to give her up. I know she will be fine no matter what age I get her. I am shopping online as I type right now... getting some stuff for the little darling... haven't had to potty train in a few years... can't wait for that

they are smart dogs. if you crate train, and watch them like a hawk, it should be ok. for potty training. i had 2 pups to train two months in age difference, and one month between getting each of them, and happily, no really bad stories...... congrats on your new pup! you have chosen appicon

Saw the pictures. What a beauty? Is she home now? Named?

Her name is Tazzy, Tazz, she is a handful, my husband says she's like a little TASMANIAN DEVIL, hence the name lol... she's great, smart as a whip, too much energy for her own good and stands her ground with the other furry kids. Quick learner and knows who's in charge (me) ;) Took her to the Vet today for 2nd shots and they loved her, no murmors, no problems noted, Vet said she's very healthy, (THANK GOD). Let's hope it stays that way.

Thank you for the comment on the picture. For some reason I think some may think she's a white frenchie, but she's not. She's light cream with a white mark on her face and a white mark on her neck. The webmaster moved her pictures to WHITE FRENCH BULLDOGS, i just e-mailed her to ler her know she is not white  It may be the flash from the photos? Don't know... she's great though... makes us laugh every second she's around. She's quiet when she gets put up in her expen for nap time, etc... and is not a bother at all. I've had pups who would scream bloody murder when put away, she is so cool and everything is great with her.... nothing phases her. She has so much confidant it's incredible. I love her.... we love her.... she keeps my stay at home booty busy.

Thanks for writing...

Congratulations! and Welcome to the site. :)
I completely agree with Judy, it is best to wait until they're at least 12 weeks old; it does make a big difference. And Frenchies will bond with you no matter how old they are. We got our Solo when she was 7 months old, and the day after we brought her home it seemed like she had been with us forever!
Whatever you decide, please keep us in the loop, and post more pics when you can!

Congrats on your frenchie!! We went to pick up Aldo at 8 1/2 weeks. He is great and is doing really well (he is 11 weeks now). I can say his first few days he was very scared and missed his sister's alot. After that he was fine. In fact in France, the breeder's like that you take the dogs around that time...different ideas I guess. I am by far NOT an expert but I can tell you Aldo is a huge success so far in the three weeks we have had him (cause three weeks is such a long time to own a dog : ). Congrats again -your doggie is adorable!!!

Thank you guys for the nice comments. Your dogs are adorable as well... I love looking at all the pics. And .... Shhhh.... Tazzy thinks Im in charge

She's a very funny dog. I get it why people call them CLOWNS. She makes all these weird noises. She barks a lot too, but only when she's playing or wants your attention... I swear she'd talk if she could. You don't hear a peep out of her when she's put away. And she knows the word NO already. Loves to go after the other k9 kids and aggravate the heck out of them. My old Lab thinks she's a pest and stays away from her lol.... She's so cool, I can't believe a French Bulldog would have so much drive. She is very focused and smart. She needs to inspect eveything and anything. She doesn't get car sick, acted like the Vet office was her home and loved on everyone she's never met. She's acted like that since day one, she doesn't seem to be the type of dog who needs adjusments of any kind, everything is fine with her. Who knew... What can I say... she really is indeed everything I could have asked for in a puppy. Well.... maybe she could be a little calmer, but hey I can deal with her little crazy butt lol.... She was so calm at 7 weeks old, little did I know she was a super, energetic girl and the alpha in her litter evilicon ... she fooled us :p
