Being new to the frenchies and very used to mastiffs who continue to grow until 3+ yrs old. Our little guy at 9 months old is I think about 30 lbs, going to the vet to have him weighed properly. What I read on the standard they should not be over 28 lbs. We are showing him in his first show is in a couple of weeks. Took long enough but here are my questions - will he continue to grow or is a frenchie at 9 mths considered full grown? He runs with the mastiffs and is solid muscle no fat on him at all and he gets 3/4 cups of Nutro twice a day. Am I feeding him to much to little - I know he sneaks some of the big guys food.
If interested I have a phot album of him at http://community.webshots.com/album/263945016OfObIr/1

I am not the one to ask the growth guestion, since I am relatively new to frenchies myself. It seems to me though that I read somewhere that frenchies grow till they are about 2 years old. I am sure Franp will be able to answer this one for you. She is up on all this stuff.

My fawn male, Ollie is all muscle as well and at 5 months old weighs 17 pounds. The girls on the other hand are the same age and weigh 12 and 15 pounds.

Ollie is a lot more bulky and muscular than they are. I looked at your album and your babies are adorable.

Frenchies do most of thier growing in the first year; bulk wise..
They do thier "fine tuning" after that and finish at about the end of the second year.

The standard in North America is 28 pounds. So, if your dog is over that, he is over the standard and not showable..Someone may call the scales on you.

You are probably not feeding him too much. He is more than likely from an Eastern European pedigree and they run MUCH bigger than the North American dogs..In fact the European standard is slightly larger than the North American; but not much..
Look at his pedigree; I am curious as to what it is?

if you have an accurate bathroom scale, an easy way to weigh your dog is to first weigh yourself, then get on the scale again holding your dog to look at the difference. Petula is from Hungary and weighs about 16.5 pounds at 6 months.
