When can you start a raw diet? Is there a certain age? Also where and what brands are the best for my little frenchie? Thanks everyone...

Hi,
I am new to the board and I have a five month old Frenchie, I am currently feeding her science diet puppy food. What is the raw diet and is it better than science diet ?

First; IMO and others here, you can feed raw from the time you get your pup. Many breeders I know wean with raw.
Use the search function for raw; there have been a number of threads on this topic.. there is much valuable information in these past discussions.

A raw diet is, essentially, the dog's natural diet. It is made up of raw meaty bones, fresh fruit and vegetables, offal, eggs, fish etc. Many would say that it is better than any kibble yet invented, or ever likely to be.
Insofar as kibbles go, I'm afraid that Science Diet is not a good quality one. It is made with lots of cheap nasty grains such as corn, and animal by-products (heads, feet and offal that is of too low quality to be used elsewhere in the food chain). For information on how to choose a good quality dry dog food, you could check out the feeding page on Bulldogworld's sister site Boxerworld www.boxerworld.com/feeding A dog food is only ever as good as the ingredients that go into it - and that page gives some good information on what ingredients to look for, what to avoid, and why. A quick check of what's in Science Diet should be enough to tell you that it's really not a high quality food.
