View Full Version : Anyone have experience with 2 Frenchie males?

Well lately we've been thinking it might be time to get Figo a baby brother. Our experiences with him (despite his deafness and allergies) have been so wonderful that we'd like to expand our family.
Figo is pretty much an alpha male, we've never neutered him and he's stubborn and so cute he almost always gets his way despite out efforts to restrain ourselves. Still, he has a very peaceful disposition, not aggressive in any way with other dogs in the park.

If we were to get another male does it mean we would have to neuter one or both of them? Can't really see anything wrong with neutering Figo. Perhaps it might even take away some of his less endearing traits: he can be hard to walk with as he loves to mark his territory, he will occasionally try to straddle our legs when we are sitting on the couch(we always put a stop to this).

So does anyone have experience or knowledge in this area? Thanks in advance.

I don't have any first hand expierence but when we are ready to adopt again we would like to have a second male. We just preferr males in general to females. But that's not to say we wouldn't welcome a girlie here. :D

I also wanted to add that neutering your male can only bring about good things. Getting your male neutered greatly decreases the risk of testicular cancer and prostate cancer. It really is something you should look into. :)

You probably already know that most of us in the US are very pro-neutering. Not only does it seem to take care of those unpleasant male attributes but there is a real health issue involved. We neutered Ferris when he was around 7-8 months old and we don't experience any male marking or the funny things they will try to do with our legs. :( !! We also have a male St Poodle who is also neutered and 15+ years old. Ripley and Ferris get along for the most part but I have to say that Ferris definitely knows he is another male and will challenge him over food, bones, etc if we don't keep an eye out. evilicon Personally I would recommend a female to you but I do know other Frenchie owners who own more than one male and they have no regrets or major issues. Abby would have had real issues if we had gotten a female...that I am quite sure of...she is a real sweetheart but a dominant female to be sure. Thanks to my friend Fran's recommendation and the recommendation of others we got a male and their relationship is very special. Abby and Ferris are the cutest couple and love each other to pieces.
