Hey Canucks,
After much confusion with Nature's Variety feeding instructions (package says too feed half what website indicates), I've found a brand of raw that is much simpler to read AND CHEAPER!
It's called Jake and Daisy, made locally, at least 10$ less than Nature's Variety per month. I finally had time to shop and compare! Tried it out this morning and Luna gave it two dew claws up.
Here's the link:

ooohh! I will have to check this out.
It says on their website that they sell it at the place where I ususally buy Stella's food anyways... I wonder why I've never noticed it
does it come in patties/medallions? or is like log-style and you have to cut it up?
thanks Brooke!

It comes in a big, thick, 1lb rectangle and if you buy more than 10 at a time, they cost $2.60 each (I think) for chicken & veg. The beef and buffalo are a bit more.
It says to feed 2% of an adult dog's body weight, which for us is basically a half pound per day, so half the block. This morning I put the block in cold water and it defrosted in 5 minutes. Will save the other half for tomorrow. For a month (15 blocks), it will cost us around 50$ if we mix it up with both chicken and beef. Which is a 20$ saving from the Nature's Variety.
For Stella, if she is going to be 25 lbs, she will need 1.25 lbs a day (at 5% of her body weight). So around $110/month or 38 blocks of food. Is that less than what you're spending now?
I get the impression you're supposed to feed them the 5% until they reach the target adult weight, but maybe Fran, Caroline or Roosje would know more about that. Babies aren't cheap to own, eh?

Dari weighs about 23 pounds and I feed her about 4 oz a day plus treats..So, if I did not feed her the treats, I guess it would be about 6 oz..It is so hard to figure. And she is not as active as she used to be.
Now, she is total muscle. Not a bit of fat on her.So, I know it is the right amount.
I looked at the ingredients; there is an awful lot of veggies and fruit.Do they make any without the additives? And what is the bone to meat ratio? It should not be more than 20%bone to 80% meat.

So Fran,
That's .375 pounds of food for Dari (without treats), right? Is that all meat and bone or mixed with veggies?
I just emailed the company to see what their bone-to-meat ratio is. I can only imagine how healthy I would be if I analized my own diet so carefully!!!!

I use the Bravo meat and bone,.no veggies.
And it is amazing; my dog is better fed and cared for than me! :D (So is my cat).
4 oz equals a quarter of a pound so I guess that your calculation without treats is correct.
